Mandalas are so beautiful to look art and I am often reminded of how they look like stained glass windows. Mandala art is defined as "a complex abstract design that is usually circular in form. Mandala is a Sanskrit word that means circle (ref. Art-Is-Fun). This style of art is a great way to introduce some art concepts such as lines, shapes, patterns, positive and negative space and color. Below is an example of what they actually look like.

Try out this INK BLOT MINI LESSON that is a great creative and warm up exercise for your students. A fun activity for all ages. Possibilities are endless to what you can create. From abstract to detailed art images. Read the lesson below:

OBJECTIVES

• Nurture creative intelligence.
• Provide opportunity for problem solving and critical thinking skills.
• Support fine motor skills.

MATERIALS

• ink or paint
• paper of any size, texture or weight
• brush, preferably ones with thicker bristols to hold in or paint
• drawing tools - pen, pencils, markers, or sharpies...etc

STEPS

1. Dip brush in ink or paint. Making sure to soak the brush.
2. Hold wet brush over paper and wait for ink or paint to drip off of brush and onto paper.
3. A blot or splatter should be formed.
4. Wait for ink or paint to dry.
5. Grab drawing tools to create drawings from the ink blots or splatters.

​TIPS: Play music to encourage different forms of strokes (i.e upbeat music for faster drawing strokes).

This is a large and simple drawing set of 75 colored printables. Ten colors are included with each dot placed in a different location on the page, in order to make the drawings more challenging. These are easy to create, so if you're in a DIY mood here are some tips to make your own colored dot drawing printables.

SUPPLIES
Drawing tools like pencils, markers, crayons, a round object to trace a circle, white paper, color construction paper glue and scissors.

INSTRUCTIONS

1) Draw Your Own.  Draw a circle and place them in a different location on each paper. You can use an object to trace to help make perfect circles. Color the circles.
2) Cut and Paste: cut out circles with colore construction paper and glue each on a paper.

Here is a set of 15 fun drawing activitiies with watercolor dots.  These are great activities to give to your budding artists to nurture their critical thinking skills and creativity. Get them playing with drawing tools and working on free flowing movements in these drawing exercises.
